Wonderful Afternoon at Wesleyan

Wonderful Afternoon at Wesleyan

We missed you this afternoon.  I mean Saturday, November 1st, from 12:30 to 3:30 PM.  At Corwin Stadium at Andrus Field in the middle of the Wesleyan University campus.  Where the Cardinals played the Royal Purple in a Little Three football game.  Both teams entered the fray with 4 - 2 records.  But from the opening kickoff to the final whistle, the Williams defense overpowered and outplayed the men from Middletown.  The final score was 26 - 2.  We left the stands singing an up tempo version of "The Mountains."  A student in front of me was wearing a T shirt with the legend, "Friends don't let their friends go to Amherst."  Next Saturday we'll see if Williams friends succeeded in keeping muscular and agile friends from making their way to the lair of Lord Jeffrey.

I took no pictures of the game, but here are a couple of snapshots that you may find encouraging.  Woody D'Oench is back among us and in fine fettle, following hip surgery that came close to doing him in.  John Dighton, with his incandescent smile, lit up our corner of the stands, even as he told me something I had not previously heard about his medical history, that he had had quadruple bypass coronary surgery some time ago.  It sure sounds like a lot of the members of the Class of 1953 are on their way to becoming bionic men.

See you next week at Williamstown for the Little Three championship.
