John and Sandy Beard
Class of 1953 Mini-Reunion, September 30 - October 1, 2016
At the evening hour of a fall day hinting at the brisk temperatures to come, a contingent of the Class of 1953 gathered at the Taconic Clubhouse for cocktails and a sumptuous banquet. Those present were: Dave and Tess Doheny, Pete Fetterolf, Carol and Dan Fitch, Barbara and Bob Howard, Derry and Tess Kruse, Happy and Todd Mauck, Jack and Mary Merselis,Anne and Charlie Mott, Bob Sillcox, and Bill and Linda Williams.
Saturday morning at Brooks Rogers at the traditional lecture hour we learned that mice chose food over sex when deprived of both. Chili and sandwiches were the fare at the tailgate luncheon before the football game with Trinity. The Williams team was defeated by perennial NESCAC powerhouse Trinity 38 - 13. The parents of the Williams team's offensive line coach sat behind me during the game and dad commiserated with me at the dismal performance of the men in purple, assuring me that in the coming years his son's recruiting efforts would produce a winning team.
Saturday evening we did a reprise on the Friday banquet, this time at the Williams Inn where the preceding night's contingent was increased with John and Sandy Beard, Nancy and Woody D'Oench, Lucy Fetterolf, Arthur and Judy Murray, Harry and Sally Molwitz, Granthia Preston, and Barbara Weedon.
Also seen in the college's environs this weekend were Fritz Liss, with blonde cheerleader wig; and Liz Ouchterloney with two daughters and three grandchildren, whom I literally bumped into at the continental breakfast at the The Springs Inn Sunday morning. Fritz reported that he gave to the Williams Library rare book archive a tome, African Folk Tales, from which his mother read to him in his childhood. The value of the book, yet to be determined, will be added to the class's 65th reunion gift and the Teach Forward program.
